  The next day, the dog came again exactly at noon. And as usual, it brought a piece of paper in the mouth. This time, the butcher did not take a look at paper, and gave the dog its meat, for he had regarded the dog as one of his customers (* people who buy something from a shop).

  But, the dog came again at four o’clock. And the same thing happened once again. To the butcher’s more surprise, it came for the third time at six o’clock, and brought with it a third piece of paper. The butcher felt a bit puzzled. He said to himself, “This is a small dog. Why does Mrs Smith give it so much meat to eat today?”

  A Faithful(忠实的) Dog

  More than seven hundred years ago, the Prince of Wales had a very big and brave dog called Gelert.

  One day the Prince wanted to go hunting(打猎) with his men. He told his dog to stay at home and look after his baby son. The baby was in a wooden cradle(摇篮), which was like a small bed.

  When the Prince came back from hunting, Gelert ran out to meet his master. He wagged(摇) his tail(尾巴) and jumped up to put his paws( 手爪 )on the Prince's chest. Then the Prince saw the blood(血) on Gelert's jaws(颚) and head.

  "What have you done?" the Prince said. He rushed into his house and looked for his baby son. The cradle was lying on its side on the floor. The clothes were torn and there was blood on them.

  "So you have killed my son?" the Prince said angrily. "You unfaithful dog!" He took out his sword(剑) and killed the dog. Just as Gelert was dying, he managed(设法) to bark. Then the Prince heard a baby call to the dog.

  The Prince ran out of the house and saw his son lying on the ground unhurt(没受伤). Near him was a dead wolf. Then the Prince knew that Gelert had defended(保卫) the baby and killed the wolf.

  The Prince ran back into the house but he was too late. Gelert was dead. The Prince was very sad indeed. Tears ran down his face when he realized 'he had killed his faithful friend. The Prince carried the body of his brave dog to the top of a mountain and buried(埋葬) him there. After this, the Prince never smiled again. Every morning at dawn, he walked up the mountain and stood by the dog's grave for a few minutes.

  If you go to Mount Snowdon in Wales, people will show you where Gelert is buried. There is a sign by his grave. It reminds people of a brave and faithful dog.

  学前英语:听力大于阅读 悦读大于阅读

  很多妈妈都在问3-6岁幼儿如何学好英语?妈妈们很关心幼儿英语学习。 孩子3-6岁,是幼儿英语学习的关键期。孩子越小就越容易自然而然的学会一种语言,年纪的增长会给学习者掌握正确的口音和语法的母语式运用增添难度。因此,让孩子从小就学习英语,不仅能帮助他们轻松完成学校的英语课程,还能培养他们学习英语的兴趣。

  幼儿英语学习听力大于阅读

  3-6 岁的幼儿对声音的敏感度较高,且右脑控制发音器官的能力较强,声带、舌唇等运动神经的调节也具有很大的可塑性。所以幼儿英语学习主要是从听力入手。换言之,英语学习过程,围绕“耳朵听”展开。举个例子,3-6 岁幼儿可以一边看,一边听 Dr.Seuss 的书,比如《Dr.Seuss’s ABC》、《Fox in socks》、《One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish 》、《The Foot Book》等等。妈妈可以利用零碎时间,带孩子多听听这些音频。

  3-6 岁的幼儿,也不一定非要购买国外的绘本。国内的出版社,也引进了很多适合小孩子的英语读物,比如《典范英语》系列、《丽声拼读会》系列,这些系列读物,既是图文并茂,又有音频朗读,非常适合亲子共读。当然,妈妈也可以亲自去新华书店挑选。我个人建议,妈妈给六岁以下孩子挑选英语读物的时候,尽量购买配有原声 CD 的读物,因为孩子的 “听”比“读”更重要。

  幼儿英语学习悦读大于阅读

  带着 3-6 岁孩子读英文原版绘本,妈妈应该带着“悦读”的心态,而不是“阅读”的心态。妈妈可以和孩子一起翻看绘本,妈妈用中文,用生动夸张的语气语调,给孩子描述画面内容。妈妈可以用中文,把绘本里的英文句子,解释给孩子听。妈妈先用中文解释英文,再把英文给孩子念一遍。等孩子熟悉了绘本里的故事,妈妈就可以拿出绘本的配套音频,播放给孩子听。

  家长:我孩子的英语该怎么办

  提到孩子的英语学习,想必让当下多数的爸爸妈妈们愁大了头。看着别人的孩子英语成绩突飞猛进,对话流利标准,而自己的孩子成绩却一路标红,口语磕磕巴巴,甚至谈“英”色变,产生对英语的逆反情绪,家长们对于孩子英语提高的期望全写在一张张焦虑的脸上。无论是苦口劝说还是暴力相向,家长们都无法让孩子真正走上英语学习的`正轨。面对如此窘境,大多数家长发出了内心的呐喊:“我孩子的英语该怎么办?!”

  或许此言一出,立时就会被无数更强烈的声音所淹没。“一年学会拼读所有英语文章”、“英语速记法,短期快速提高”、“英语是玩出来的”等各型各色的培训机构广告语又让家长无所适从。而充满诱惑、看似科学的辅导课程在课程顾问巧舌如簧的渲染下又让家长怦然心动,似乎高额的培训费就能无条件换取孩子英语成绩的提高。而不幸的是,绝大多数求医问卜的家长屡屡失望而归。

  实际上,就这个问题,北外教育专家,资深教学顾问曹文教授已经给出了答案。曹文教授做客北京市海淀区中关村第三小学时,就如何改变青少年英语现状面对上千名学生家长,做了一场别开生面的互动讲座。在这场名为“有规划才有未来”的讲座中,曹文教授首先提出了几个大部分家长没有深入想过,很多培训机构无法给出答案的问题——“英语要不要学”、“英语学什么”、“英语怎么学”。这些问题看似简单,却直指英语学习的根源。这对于只关心孩子英语成绩的家长来说是个不小的吸引力。

  在很多对英语学习缺乏了解的家长看来,孩子的英语体系已经在义务教育中建立起来,现在学生不佳的学习成绩多是由于孩子不努力或老师师资水平等问题造成,因此就利用假期或业余时间到处给孩子找各种补习班、强化班。在曹文教授看来,这样的培训班只能掩盖孩子英语问题中所衬托出的问题。如没有英语兴趣就用动画片的形式来吸引孩子,却没有找到孩子不喜欢英语的根结在何处,典型的“头疼医头,脚疼医脚”。在讲座中曹文教授提到,有一位母亲,从孩子幼儿园起就不断送他上各种各样的英语培训班,一会儿剑桥,一会儿新概念,一会儿朗文,一会儿浸泡,现在孩子上小学五年级了,忽然又听说小升初要某某英语证书,于是有将孩子送到北外青少英语,告诉曹文教授孩子只有四个月的学习时间,而孩子必须要考取这个证书。 “由于孩子的英语学习没有从一开始就遵循一个系统的学习体系,所学内容有重复,有遗漏,且多是零零碎碎,所以很难在这么短的时间内去应对一个系统性很强的考试。而如果硬压,只会让孩子逐渐失去学习英语的兴趣和自信”,曹文教授这样说道。

  因此,想真正拯救孩子的英语学习,就必须按照系统的学习方式进行,同时又要结合学生自身实际情况。在讲座中,曹文教授将目前的孩子分为三种类型,一是特优型,二是稳健型,三是优秀型。其中特优型学生是指语言天赋极高的“天才儿童”和有国外生活经验的“海归儿童”,这样的孩子的英语水平远在国内同龄人水平之上;而稳健型的孩子多是完全按照义务教育标准进行,到了三、四年级甚至更晚才开始接触英语,并以通过期末考试为目的,家长也没有意识到孩子英语学习的重要性;而目前绝大多数的孩子属于优秀型,在学龄前或刚刚入学就开始接触英语,但是学习不系统,就如同上文提到的学生案例,有病乱投医。所以,在这些问题出现以前,家长就应根据孩子的长远目标规划成长路线,否则只能是“低头看脚下,抬头撞南墙”。
